As vehicles become increasingly complex, the need for accessible, intelligent tools to support everyday drivers in maintaining car health and driving safely has never been greater. In Malaysia, where road safety remains a pressing concern and preventive maintenance is often overlooked, casual drivers face challenges in monitoring essential vehicle functions and understanding the impact of their driving habits. Existing OBD-II tools are often too technical, leaving a gap for a user-friendly, educational, and proactive solution.
SmartCarMate is a mobile-first application designed to bridge this gap by transforming raw vehicle data into meaningful insights for non-technical users. By connecting to a car’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) via an ELM327 OBD-II Bluetooth adapter, SmartCarMate monitors key metrics such as engine RPM, coolant temperature, battery voltage, and mileage. It translates these readings into real-time alerts, predictive maintenance reminders, and personalized driving advice.
The system goes beyond diagnostics by incorporating AI-driven stress detection and aggressive driving pattern analysis, helping users recognize and improve risky behaviours. A built-in road safety quiz module further empowers users with knowledge, reinforcing responsible driving habits. Designed with simplicity and clarity in mind, SmartCarMate caters to both casual drivers and hobby mechanics, offering tiered data views and intuitive navigation.
Initial deployment focuses on Proton and Perodua vehicles, ensuring compatibility and relevance for Malaysian users. Future enhancements may include web-based dashboards for service centres and expanded vehicle support. Ultimately, SmartCarMate aims to reduce vehicle-related risks, promote safer roads, and make automotive care accessible to all.
Invention Technical Description
SmartCarMate is a real-time vehicle monitoring and driving assistant system built to simplify automotive care for Malaysian drivers. The application leverages Flutter for cross-platform mobile development, ensuring smooth performance on Android devices. It interfaces with vehicles via ELM327 OBD-II Bluetooth adapters, enabling direct communication with the ECU.
System Architecture
- Frontend: Flutter for responsive mobile UI.
- Backend (optional): Laravel with MySQL for centralized data management and future web dashboard integration.
