Invention Description/ Abstract:
SmartRoute-JB is a proposed traffic-aware route planning and delivery coordination system designed for courier services in Johor Bahru. The invention aims to help courier companies manage delivery operations when traffic conditions change. Traffic congestion can cause delays, make travel times difficult to predict and affect the planned delivery schedule.
SmartRoute-JB brings important delivery information into one system, including delivery locations, driver locations, vehicle availability, delivery deadlines and traffic conditions. Unlike a normal GPS navigation system, SmartRoute-JB focuses on coordinating multiple drivers and deliveries rather than only guiding one driver. The system can identify deliveries that may be delayed and support managers in making better transportation decisions.
Invention Technical Description
The proposed system is a responsive website prototype with several main functions. The Traffic & Congestion Heatmap displays congestion levels and identifies traffic hotspots. The Delivery Risk Prediction function uses traffic conditions, driver locations and delivery deadlines to identify deliveries that are at risk of delay.
The Traffic-Aware Route Recommendation function suggests alternative routes when the original route may cause delays. The Smart Delivery Resequencing function can change the order of delivery stops according to traffic conditions and deadlines. The Fleet Balancing and Delivery Reassignment function can recommend transferring selected deliveries from an overloaded or traffic-affected driver to another driver with available capacity. The system also includes a What-If Congestion Simulator to show the possible effects of traffic disruptions on drivers, routes and deliveries.
The prototype will use simulated traffic and delivery information to demonstrate the proposed system and its transportation-management functions.
