EaZy - AI-Enhanced IoT Smart Prepaid Electricity Usage and Cost Monitoring System with Abnormal Usage Detection and Automatic Power Cut-Off

Invention Description/ Abstract:
Electricity users commonly depend on monthly bills, which reveal cost only after consumption has occurred. This delay makes it difficult to identify high usage, estimate how quickly available credit is being consumed, or take early action. The problem is greater in shared rental properties, where Owners may calculate charges manually and Tenants may lack a clear view of electricity use, contributions, remaining credit, and supply status.
EaZy proposes an AI-enhanced IoT smart prepaid electricity usage and cost monitoring system for Owners and Tenants. It combines property management, real-time electricity monitoring, a shared prepaid property balance, usage-based credit deduction, low-credit notifications, reports, and automatic power cut-off at zero credit. Tenants fund a personal wallet and transfer credit into the shared property account, while the system deducts electricity cost according to total property consumption and the configured tariff. Alerts at 30% and 10% support earlier top-up decisions. When property credit reaches zero, the planned system stops the supply and restores it after sufficient property credit is added. Owner-initiated manual stops remain separate and cannot be overridden by a Tenant top-up.
The system also supports self-use properties with monitoring and reports but without prepaid deduction or cut-off. Future AI analysis will use historical readings to forecast usage, estimate credit depletion, identify abnormal consumption patterns, and provide energy-saving suggestions. The current Flutter prototype demonstrates the complete Owner-Tenant workflow with simulated readings and supply states; IoT metering, cloud services, physical relay control, payment integration, and AI evaluation are planned for the next development stage. EaZy aims to make shared electricity management more transparent, fair, proactive, and energy-aware.
Invention Technical Description
EaZy is a mobile-first smart prepaid electricity management system designed for rental and self-use properties. The application is developed in Flutter and separates users into Owner and Tenant roles. An Owner can create properties, generate joining codes, approve or remove Tenants, monitor electricity information, review contributions and reports, and manually control the property’s supply. A Tenant can join an approved rental property, view live usage and shared credit, top up a personal wallet, transfer funds into the property’s shared electricity credit, receive notifications, and review transaction and consumption records.
In the proposed full architecture, a PZEM-004T energy-monitoring module and current transformer measure voltage, current, active power, energy, frequency, and power factor. An ESP32 transmits the readings through Wi-Fi to Firebase services. EaZy calculates electricity cost from measured energy and the configured tariff, then deducts the cost from the shared property credit. Low-credit alerts are triggered at 30% and 10%. When the balance reaches zero, the backend sends a control command through an isolated relay driver and contactor to disconnect the test load. Supply is restored after sufficient credit is transferred into the property balance, unless the Owner has applied a separate manual stop. Self-use properties retain monitoring and reporting without prepaid deduction or automatic cut-off.
Historical readings are intended to support AI-based usage forecasting, abnormal-usage detection, credit-depletion estimation, and energy-saving recommendations. The current FYP I prototype implements the Owner and Tenant application flows using local simulated data, including property and Tenant management, wallet transfer, usage-based credit deduction, alerts, supply-state changes, monitoring, notifications, and reports. Physical metering, Firebase synchronization, payment processing, push notifications, relay/contactor control, and evaluated AI models are planned for the next integration stage.
