Invention Description/ Abstract:
This project develops the Smart Cabinet Item Finder, an IoT-based system that helps users store, manage, and find household items more easily. The system combines a Flutter mobile application with an ESP32 microcontroller. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is used to unlock cabinet doors and turn on LED lights to guide users to the correct compartment. Firebase Firestore stores item information, while AI-assisted autofill, search, and voice input help users add and find items with less typing. Agile methodology was used to develop the system step by step through testing and improvement. The testing results show that BLE door unlocking and LED guidance work well. However, real-time door status updates through Firebase Realtime Database could not be completed successfully. Future work should solve this problem and improve the system to support more cabinets and automatic item recognition. Overall, the project shows that a low-cost AI and IoT solution can improve household storage management and provide a practical alternative to expensive smart cabinet systems.
Invention Technical Description
The main objective of this project is to design and develop a Smart Cabinet Item Finder that helps users manage and locate stored items conveniently. The specific objectives are:
●To develop a mobile application that allows users to check the contents of their cabinet at any time.
●To notify users whenever an item is placed into or taken out of the cabinet.
●To enhance user convenience by enabling item search through the mobile application, with the cabinet automatically unlocking or activating LED indicators to guide the user to the item's location.
The project focuses on the development of a home-based Smart Cabinet Item Finder that integrates both hardware and software components to improve the efficiency of item storage and retrieval. The software scope covers a mobile application built with Flutter and connected to Firebase for data storage and real-time synchronization, allowing users to view cabinet status, add or remove boxes and items, search for specific items and receive real-time notifications via BLE. The hardware scope is demonstrated using a prototype limited to two cabinet compartments, equipped with an ESP32 microcontroller, magnetic door sensor, servo motor and LED indicators.
